C’s Cakes & Coffee House is already becoming a local favorite in Montevallo.

Serving good coffee and food is of paramount importance to Cynthia Bertolone at her coffee shop, and understandably so. But creating a cozy place where locals can gather, unwind and connect is just as important to the Montevallo resident. “My vision is to unify the surrounding communities and start a tradition to gather friends and family here,” she says of C’s Cakes & Coffee House, which opened in January. “They can hang out, play board games, listen to music, eat tasty food, drink exceptional coffees and enjoy the outdoor patio in the cutest coffee house in all of Alabama.”

Cynthia, who also owns Cake Art in Pelham, says the community has welcomed the coffee shop with open arms and a steady stream of visitors since it opened. She wanted to open the business in the area, a college town, because she was presented with an opportunity she could not refuse. Now, she’s serving a lineup of specialty coffee, pastries, soups, salads and meals to go that people can’t refuse.

“C’s Cakes & Coffee House is about creating smooth, tasty, specialty coffee and scrumptious cakes from our original location at Cake Art,” she says. “Yet, we don’t stop here; we added an Italian twist to our cafe. We offer panini sandwiches, Italian pastries such as tiramisu and cannolis, gourmet salads, wraps and meals to go and great grab-n-go items.”

Since opening, Cynthia says some customer favorites are scones and sliced cake. “Those who want to eat lighter enjoy our gourmet salads and wraps, yet other customers love the fact that we offer vegetarian options.”

Many of C’s Cakes & Coffee House specialties include “C’s Mounds and Honey Cinnabon,” cold beverages, cold brew coffee and panini sandwiches, including the C’s Cuban, made with pulled pork, sliced ham, Swiss cheese, pickles, Dijon mustard and a “mojo” sauce on grilled ciabatta bread.

Cynthia says those visiting the coffee shop for the first time should try a specialty coffee with an added syrup and pair it with a C’s cannoli, cookie or cake bite. “I want customers to remember a fabulous experience with a wonderful atmosphere,” she says. “I also want them to experience spectacular service, scrumptious desserts and awesome food. One of my customers said, ‘it was the cherry on top during our visit at C’s in Montevallo.’”

As a business owner and entrepreneur, she admits she is always looking for ways to improve the quality of her businesses. “I want to set myself apart from everyone else,” Cynthia says. “I try my best to make sure all of my new and repeat customers walk away with complete satisfaction.”
