Ring in the holiday season at the Shelby County Arts Council.

The Shelby County Arts Council will ring in the holiday season with a full lineup of exciting events. In December, the annual Holiday Artist Market will be the perfect place to find all of those unique holiday gifts or to pick up something for yourself. A variety of gift ideas from local artists and makers will be available at prices that fit any budget. The market features photography, pottery, fabric work, gourd art, painting, printmaking and so much more, so finding something special for everyone on your list will be easy. Shop the Artist Market early on Friday, Dec. 6, at the Artist Market Preview Night from 6-8 p.m. Then, join us on Saturday, Dec. 7, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. for the full day of Holiday Artist Market fun.

If you’re looking for more holiday festivities in December, Eric Essix and Roman Street will join us for the first time in the Black Box Theater for a Christmas performance.

Essix is a Birmingham-based contemporary jazz guitarist. His impressive recording career spans the last 30 years and 25 full-length recording albums. His music style has been heavily influenced by the Gospel and jazz he listened to growing up. On Sunday, Dec. 15, Essix along with Roman Street perform instrumental arrangements of your holiday favorites. Roman Street’s acoustic Gypsy Jazz alongside Essix’s style “brings a totally different kind of sound and feel to the holidays,” according to Essix. Doors open at 1:30 p.m., and the show starts at 2 p.m. Tickets start at $25 and can be purchased at Shelbycountyartscouncil.com.

Also joining us in the Black Box Theater this season is Jessica Meuse on Nov. 8, Dolores Hydock performing “Taking Sides: A New Look at the Life of Audrey Williams” on Nov. 10, Austin Foster on Nov. 22, Jingle All the Way on Dec. 8 and Telluride on Dec. 21.
