The new Shelby County Arts Center is open just in time for a new year of classes and exhibits.

The Shelby County Arts Council has officially started the new year in the new Shelby County Arts Center in Columbiana. After a move-in and soft launch in late fall 2019, the SCAC is back in full swing of classes and events. There are so many great things happening at the Shelby County Arts Council, and you are invited to be a part of them.

We offer classes in painting, photography, pottery, writing, drawing and kids’ art, as well as a variety of weekend workshops and private music lessons. Our gifted instructors are local artists and musicians who have the knowledge and skills to teach a variety of age and skill levels. Membership is not required to take classes; everyone in the community is welcome. Become a better artist or learn a new skill at the SCAC. Information about current class offerings, private lessons and workshops is available at Shelbycountyartscouncil.com.

On Feb. 22, the Federated Women’s Clubs of Columbiana will to host the Celebration of the Arts Luncheon in the Grande Hall of the Shelby County Arts Center. Each year the Culture Club, Vignette Club and Novella Club work together to put on this fundraising event to benefit the programing of the Shelby County Arts Council. The 2020 theme will be the Roaring ’20s with special musical entertainment by Three on a String. Dig out your flapper dress and grab your feather boa and celebrate the arts with us.

Lunch will be provided by The Fish Market, and art from local artists will be available for purchase. Tickets are $25 each or $250 for a table for eight. Proceeds from this event help support the SCAC community programs which include: ArtAbilities, which provides art and music lessons to children with special needs at no cost to the schools; Writing Our Stories, an anti-bullying creative writing program taught in three Shelby County middle schools; and art and music therapy to students at the Shelby County Juvenile Detention Center. Tickets for the event are available at Shelbycountyartscouncil.com.

Don’t forget to check out our great Black Box Theater events for 2020 like The Cleverlys joining us for the first time in the new theater on Saturday, Feb. 15.
